My next-door neighbor had a good sized oak taken down today. It's been dead for two years and I don't know how he let it stay there, hanging right over his house, for so long. When the crew arrived I went over and asked about the wood. Well, the owner didn't want it and neither did the crew, so I got them to drop it in my driveway. Badda-bing-badda-boom, as we say in Jersey. Those logs are about eight feet long, up to 38" diameter. It was dead so long it's hard to tell just what it was, but I'm going with black oak, judging by the bark.
I don't really need the wood because I'm four or five years ahead already, but I need something to do. Cutting and splitting wood is the only form of exercise I enjoy. Besides, now I can feel comfortable making some of my dry wood available to friends who don't have enough.
