I love my Mendota fireplace but I'm starting to wonder about their commitment to customer service. This is an unedited email exchange. I contacted the company through the website, this is the following exchange..start from the bottom..

I am sorry, but I don't know the dealers in your area. I do understand in Alaska that there are only a few dealers. You may want to try the dealer the unit was purchased from.

Most stove makers have nothing like "certified" techs that can service a stove - even in populated areas. The general scheme of operation as well as the gas valves and parts are all similar so that those experienced with natural draft gas appliances can usually service any of them.

Of course, even finding qualified HVAC people can be tough.

Usually, it is the dealers responsibility to at least connect you with someone who can service the unit. These companies are all much too small to have "certified" techs.....

My suggestion is to check out the NFI database of Gas certified folks:

Thank you! I feel sort of bad for putting up a snarky post, since I was incorrect in my understanding. Here I thought the stoves are like cars, you know, Toyota techs, Subaru techs...
