The folks have a couple red oaks they want taken down so I'm gonna help them out . Don't have a lot of red oaks on the property. I think my grandpa cut a bunch of them through the years feeding the Ashley heater. Pics coming after the work is done

Yeah, I put a PE Super 27 in and am still in the middle of a learning curve. So far I'm very impressed with it. The 17 is a great little stove and I am planning on putting it in my workshop sometime in the next year or so after I add on to my shop. It was my first woodstove. I can't wait to expand the shop and create a new home for it. Enjoy your woodsplitting!

I forgot to mention the aroma while splitting. Pure heaven!

Rebel - your stacks are out of control, What you should do is make stacks that spell Hearth and wait for a google satellite to take a pic of it, then change your signature to that...you go the space to do that.

+1 on the aroma. It ranks up there with frying bacon as one of my favorite smells. I also like that the wood doesn't seem to rot as fast as others. I have some year-old hickory rounds that are almost too punky to mess with, yet I uncovered some forgotten red oak that had been buried under leaves for at least two years and they were still fantastic inside (with only a little surface rot).

First thing that occurred to me, with that bark texture, was Black Oak. Orange inner bark is another feature of Black. Leaves would help but it looks like anything could be lying around in that area.
