Can't beat anything that's free and ash dried fast, splits easily but has less BTU than many others. I like to burn it during the day and evening and save oak for overnight.

I like Ash even better when I can split it in nice square slices. Then you can stacked it in the stove and have it burn all night.

Ash is good stuff.

It's pretty much all I've burnt this year, and I'll be burning it for a few more. The EAB has killed most of the ash trees on our property. At this point, if it's an ash tree, my dad and I will just cut it regardless of what it looks like. Almost all of them are either standing dead or already have the EAB in them (woodpecker holes abound). It's simply a matter of time before these ones die as well.

A few of them are nice trees; nice enough to get a few loads of logs out of them as well. Was a nice way to fund the purchase of a new chainsaw this fall (Husky 562 XP).

Me too. Oak 3900, ash 3400. Have to say though that ash is easier to cut and split.

I have Ash in my wood mix that I bought this year, and I would agree it burns pretty well. Got some good results mixing it with oak at night, and birch during the day.
Definitely good stuff.

Here in Ohio, we burn tons of ash. EAB has been working overtime. Love the wood though. It cuts/splits well, seasons fast and burns hot. Can't beat it. Great score.

Not sure if ash is the "king of firewood" . . . but it certainly is the wood that you want when you're looking for a wood that is easy to process, seasons relatively quickly and delivers decent heat. I've said it before -- and probably will say it again -- but ash is that player on the baseball team that doesn't get the star status or MVP award, but is always in the game, playing well and is consistent.
