Question:
Just ran across your wonderful site today! What a wealth of information!
We are currently exploring alternative heating options for during power outages as we live in the frigid north. My biggest question right now is: Are there direct-vent fireplace and/or stove models available using LP that would still function and produce heat without electricity? Of course, we know there is always wood too but are trying to get away without the expense of a chimney!
Answer:
Yes, most LP direct vent units do not need electric to operate. If your unit has a blower, make certain it is designed to operate without one.
