I didn't know if it was a common practice among members here. I know when I get oil I curse them every time they leave my reciept in my mailbox. I know its not necessary or required. just wondering all your thoughts.
Do you tip your pellet delivery person?

in the last 4 years I have picked up, delivered, and stacked about 8-10 pallets of pellets from my truck onto my porch. I don't recall ever getting tipped,,,,,,,, just sayin'

I have only got pellets delivered once and didn't tip. Afterwards I had the same question in my mind. I probably will throw them a small tip next time if they are timely, friendly, and put the pallets where I ask.

i've talked with steve from sib each time he's driven up here (well, of course we talk. lol) but we both appreciate each other and express that fact. he is glad of my business and that i mention his services on the board here. and i am glad he comes all the way up here.

tipping for service or pellets is rare, as its not really the same deal-io as a waiter or waitress....in their fields of endeavor, they are paid a raduced hourly rate BECAUSE they normall get tipped, whereas, the service guy or pellet delivery guy, does not get paid a reduced rate. That being said, if any service, or deliveryperson goes above and beyond, maybe a tip is in order. Tough call.
Depends on the delivery guy. Since I ask them to bring the pallets around the back of the house and drop them right at the top of my bulk head basement doors I do tip them. Times are tough for everyone out there, including the delivery guys... and as long as I can afford to give something I will. Now, again it depends on the delivery guy. The last guy from Lowes didn't call me when he was on his way - which I confirmed in my order he needed to do - so I had to rush home only to find him at my back door (weird) ringing the bell. He was nice enough and brought them around back for me, but he didn't get the full tip. I'm getting another delivery on Saturday (2 tons), but those are going right into the garage - depending on the delivery guy I'll probably spot him a small tip ($10?). I'm not rich, but these guys don't make that much delivering either, so I try to help out where and when I can.
dangit, youre right! I dont get tipped for doing my kids' laundry, or mowing the yard, or cooking for them either! The nerve! Just sayin'

Definitely depends on the delivery and the person. As far as pellets over the past 3 years, that person is also the owner of the business and he is all set with the delivery charge and profit from the pellets; he also does not expect a tip.
The guy from Lowes 4 years ago that showed up with the wrong pellets, called back to the store for the right ones, went and got em, delivered them the same day and helped me get the borrowed pallet jack back into my vehicle... he got a tip.
The 2 guys that had to get my 2 piece sofa in a front door that has a stairway right there in the way, and then my old sofa out the same way...they got a tip.
I am in the service industry and understand that a good delivery person is worth his/her weight in gold these days. That deserves a reward. There is a difference between a delivery person and a "driver".

Tipping is for service above and beyond and or being grateful for a service rendered. I remember the first winter with a pellet stove. The house averaged 70 to 72 degrees. Prior winters 65 degree days in the house were a bonus. My wife has been grateful ever since the pellet stove installation.
I do not tip em.

I pick up my pellets at TSC, where they claim you have no choice on what pellets you get. The fellow back there always gives me a choice and helps me load them in the car. I usually drop him a small tip. I'll never miss the few dollars, and while it won't pay his bills, a tip at least is a tangible way to say thanks for a little extra effort.

think of it this way the $5.00 to 10.00 you hand the service guy is mot likely not going to hurt your budget at all and in the grand scheme of thins is quit insignificant, but to the driver/service guy/installer/who ever it can change you whole day. my guys come back to the shop and are exited they got a $5. tip . so for 5 bucks you can help some one feel appreciated and feel better about themselves why wouldn't you,

I'm usually the delivery person. Wife tips me sometimes. Tip is what time dinner will be ready so I better stop lolly gagin and get my rear in gear! 
I always tip. My pellets come in a tractor trailer, 22 tons. Driver brings them to the back with a pallet jack and i unload with my skid steer to my house and 6 neighbors. driver moves the truck 3 times.each neighbor chips in 10 bucks. Drivers happy, usually suprised.I'm usually the delivery person. Wife tips me sometimes. Tip is what time dinner will be ready so I better stop lolly gagin and get my rear in gear!

I probably already know the answer, But why not just skip the pallet jack and use the skid all the way??
Next time you order could you get a picture or two and post them. I would love to see this operation, 22 ton, kinda makes me drool a little.
They come in a boxed trailer so they all have to come off from the back. I buy from Pellets Now. They are in vermont and the turmans come from virginia.
We get a good deal buying in bulk. 251 a ton this year.

Would like to try some Turmans some day, but our choices are limited here...Doubt the wife will let me spend 5-6 K just so I could have a truckload for myself! LOL

Eatonpcap, Im fortunate that I have 6 neighbors that have pellet stoves and that I have a skidsteer. If I had to buy turmans here on Long Island I would be paying 325 a ton.
