does circulating water thru pressurized storeage tanks cool the water if the boiler isnt at full out

should i get my tanks up to temp and then stop the wood boiler from circulating? i think when then boiler cools down it brings the tank temp down. i was going to add a three way zone valve to devert the boiler water back to the boiler without going thru the tanks once the tanks hit temp.
