Dogs got the christmas crazies! (stove related)

5 am- 68 degrees inside, dogs come into the house heads down, looking guilty as hell, and STINKIN'-

Back outside! Doggie door locked! Stove now crankin', loaded it up, because they are getting a bath..

LR/Kitchen/Bathroom at 74 and rising, 2 very bad dogs in front of the fire, drying off-

They found a dead cat behind my shed- all this and it's only 7:30 am!!

WHY DO THEY FEEL THE NEED TO ROLL AROUND IN THE FOULEST SMELLING STUFF?

I remember when my old dog found a possum that my neighbor had shot a few months before and thrown into the bayou in TX. Man that was rank!

I had a Pug when we were living on a working farm, and he would go into the barnyard and roll around in the cow poo like he was just as happy as a bug. When I asked the farmer why he did that, he told me that it is some old instinct left over in them from their pack hunting days. They do it to mask their own scent for stalking and the hunt. I am not sure if that is the case, but it made sense to me

hehehe Elks dog digs up the rabbit's grave , So Elk puts him back in his cage, hhehehehe , they had to bury it all over again, return of the dead rabbit, night of the living dead bunnies, hehehehe

My Golden Retriever used to roll around on dead seagulls on the beach. What a stench! I can smell your dogs from here. That is funny though. I don't get why they have to roll on it either.

Tomato juice gets rid of skunk spew so should work---or try vinegar. My golden used to love big fat green cowpies.

Call a vet and tell him they got sprayed by a skunk, use what he tells you too. I forget the name fo the stuff.

My dog got skunked last year, I bought this stuff at the local grocery store, Skunk-off or Skunk-b-gone I think, worked great! Read the directions as with this stuff, you use it full strength and don't rinse it off. I've read that the tomato juice is an old wives tale, just masks the scent to us humans. Try this stuff though it really worked well.

the best de-stinker for dogs that I've found is home made, works better on skunk than the store bought stuff;

Completely wet down the dog with warm water, while he is in the tub;

Mix 2 tablespoons of Dawn dish detergent into a new quart of hydrogen peroxide - it has to be Dawn, what the tv ads say about it being the degreaser of choice for birds after an oil spill is true.
Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the mixture. Do what you can to mix it in well. Pour it over the wet dog and work it into the coat. Let stand for 10 minutes or so - stay witht he dog to make sure he licks as little of it as possible (can cause stomach "distress" and you don't need to deal with that after this problem). Rinse with warm water, repeat if necessary.

I have a Gordon Setter, beautiful dog, pretty good on birds, dumb as a post about skunks and anything else that stinks. Dead seagulls, teh occasional bluefish that washes up on the beach. I've learned to always have the ingredients on hand ........

Sailor61 is right, I've read about that concoction also, just be carefull with the peroxide not to get into the dog's eyes as it can hurt their vision.

Powered Massigale Douche. Really! We used to use it on skunk sprays in the vet clinic I worked at as a teen, then while in College Org Chem proved why it worked so good. Can't remember the details, but it works so good I have no qualms about buying it although being male you do get a few strange looks upon doing so.

That's what GF's are for.... OTOH, sometimes they do make you wonder - A few years back she had purchased a new (used) car, which we had just picked up. On our way to the local KFC for some dinner, she saw a skunk starting across the road right in front of us. She didn't want to hurt it, so she slammed on the brakes and steered to high-center the skunk. She ended up stopping directly over it, and SITTING there for a good 30 seconds or so.

In case you hadn't guessed this scared the skunk, and we all know what scared skunks do.... :sick: She only moved after the stench really started to penetrate.... We went on to the KFC however and it was a riot watching the other customers as they were checking out the car - never seen so many people looking at a Ford Escort that way.

Then she came home and parked in the garage, so that all the accumulated "slush bombs" under the car could fall off and melt...

It was a good month before the stink went away
