We just purchased this house, 1979 home, we've had a couple quotes to repair the top masonry of the chimney. And one repair guy suggested putting an insert (osburn specifically) in because there wasn't hearth on the one side and blocking that side off as well. He said it would also be much more efficient way to heat the house. Now I did some preliminary googling but I wasn't sure if they'd work in a retrofit(insert) but does the Supreme Duet work for keeping the double sided fireplace look. I really do like the style and would hate to lose it. Are there other options out there? Any suggestions welcome, TIA.

The Supreme Duet is a complete fireplace, not an insert. To install one in this location would require a complete rebuild. This might be possible, but it wouldn't be cheap.
