Looking to buy for next year. Anyone see anything decent around in the Hudson valley? Mostly around Poughkeepsie area.

Tractor Supply in Highland has tons stacked up, but I believe they're still at the higher prices. Not sure if they will drop after the heating season ends.

Go to CT Pellet and buy the super premiums. I used 32 less bags this year compared to the box store Poughkeepsie area pellets.

I live in Hyde Park and tried the Alleghany fro Wappingers this season. Great heat but in the 10 + years I have been burning pellets hard to beat the almost no ash cleanliness of the Okies. The 32 bags of pellets I saved equals $161.00 of box store pellets. The cost differential buying the Okies at last seasons price for a ton was $60. I am still over $100 bucks ahead!

I got the Golds and quite honestly best pellet I ever used. The platinums give out another 100 btu, not worth the extra $$

I found in my stove, virtually no ash from the golds, what stove are you using and did you turn up the combustion air input?

Thanks Andy. Is there a place to get multiple bags. I have a truck and don't want to pay for delivery. Especially with oil being so low.

CT pellet is 52 miles from Poughkeepsie and only sells loose bags if a pallet breaks open!

I work in white plains. I am going to check out the place in Cortland. Thanks for the info.

Called Home and Hearth. Okie gold is 7 bucks a bag. Does that sound about average?

yes, loose bags are usually $6 a bag for premium pellets at the start of the season and the dealers jack up the prices a bit as the winter goes on
last may home and hearth had the golds for $299 a ton and platniums for $329,now the golds are $329 and platniums $359
not sure what they will be next month
may is usually the best time to buy pellets if you have the space.some places like home and hearth and ctpellet let you pay now and schedual a delivery in aug/september.this way you get the good price and are guaranteed your pellets.
phil do fire is correct if you mapquest ctpellet you can take some county rte roads and it's 55 miles from here.i took the long way on I84,i only went to ctpellet once and was able to buy 8 bags of every pellet he had(10 i think)so i would call to be sure about loose bags.
best thing to do is try a few bags of as many types as you can.everyones stove is a bit different and some work well for some and not for others.alot of people love the okie gold's,for me they burned very dirty in my stove and alot of ash.the platniums burn very clean and alot less ash.i had great luck with hamers, barefoot and turman pellets.thats what i will be burning next year.i got the barefoots delivered last week.6 tons @ $289 ton + 75 for delivery.ctpellet was the only ones that had turmans but at $315 thats a little steep for me.alleghaney pellets from all county hvac on old rte 9 are great also.he offers free delivery, they are $285 a ton currently but think there going up a bit this year
i have plenty of alleghaney, and okie platniums if you want to try them, the okie golds i have 2 bags left

I would suggest that being a new member of Hearth.com to list you're stove brand and model in the signature section. It assists other members that have the same stove with making intelligent decisions when purchasing pellets. I burned the Okies golds along with three other neighbors this season and all reported little to no ash build up and great heat. Efficiency also increased.

Hey with spec's like that, I would try the easy blaze, Are they the same size as the Okies?

I'm gonna say they are a bit longer than the firs, probably closer to size of the golds. They range from 1/2- 1 1/4" . I can't say for a certainty what the ratio of 1/2" to 3/4 to 1" is though. All brands of pellets will vary in length even from season to season.

Side note- I travel to the Newburgh, Middletown, Suffern, Montgomery area quite a bit for work and would be able to deliver in the HV area.
