Early Purchase ??

OK -- In this area winter prices were fairly consistant from late fall through now at stove dealers and went from 239 to as much as 280 per ton at BB stores as the year progressed.

Based on those prices what would be considered a good early buy price.

Platinum ---- 329
Hammer ---- 329
LaCrete ----- 329

NEWP Mix --- 299
Trebio --- 299

Pennington --- 235 (just bought some)
Curran -- 285
PA -- 300

TSC -- 285

The above mentioned brands are in stock at various places right now and the prices shown are current not early buys.

I plan on another ton of Pennington. Although some here apparently do not care for them they burn well in my Serentiy with moderate heat although they do tend to be ashy. Ashy is not a big deal to me as I clean the stove twice a week (every other day when burning on low settings). On the Serenity cleaning is quick and simple so ash is not my major concern. However the Pennington require LP supplement on very cold days and this past year I used LaCrete, Platinum, AWF for those cold nights (most of feb).

Anyway -- I want to purchase 10 ton as the year progresses. That is enough for two seasons. After which I will employ a ton out / a ton in so that my inventory remains about the same.

i always buy early, but this year i will have them earlier than ever.
i called in my order today and expected to have to wait a few weeks for delivery.
but they are coming in the morning with my 6 tons. (MWP blend @ $229/ton)
that's how much his trailer handles, so i always get 6. the delivery is flat fee, so it pays to get a full load.
i would love to have at least one year where i burn 4 1/2 tons like i did two seasons ago.
that way i could really start laying in more surplus and get to the point where i could skip a year.
i'm pretty sure i can fit 12 ton in my basement without interfering with the different work and storage spaces.

Not sure what to tell you. I think I'd wait until about July and see what shakes out. IMO, it's too realy to consider buying furl for next season. I know I'll be running corn most likely next winter.

The only pellets I found so far in my area are stove chow. Cheat river penington and pro pellet. Not sure which one is the better one since I'm new to pellet stoves. Any advice so I can stack up early.

All those pellets, as well as most others talked about here, have both supporters and detractors. Mostly good reviews for Cheat River and Pro Pellet, mixed on Stove Chow and mostly negative on Penningtons.

don't rely on me completely on this, i just seem to remember that several people posted that they like the presto logs a lot.
hopefully someone else can confirm.

just glancing i see at least one that is not so positive.
but in the first search i could see reports of "low ash" for them.

the best bet is to buy a few bags and try them out for yourself. but that's a good sample of opinions too in those search links

Presto Logs are fine. Good heat, moderate ash, but each stove will handle them a little differently, as it is with most pellets.

I just bought 3 tons of O'Malley's Premium Hardwood, the only pellets I've ever used, for August delivery. $239/ton with free delivery from KC Stoves in Alburtis, PA. I think I paid $229 last year and $239 the year before that. I may be able to save some $$ by waiting but I always get free delivery and good service from these guys.

They have the new Harman Absolute running on their floor. It's quieter than my XXV. They had it running in room temp. I like the flame diverter they've added to the front of the burnpot but I'm not crazy about the location of the digital control panel, on top of the stove. It's about 70% the size of the XXV but it only has a 52 or 54 pound hopper. I think it's rated at 43K BTU/hr max.

Geez, I just committed to 5 tons of Dry Creeks at 272/ton. Oh well. On a cynical note, in NY it seems that the farther you get away from NYC, the better the pricing on just about anything.

don't think I will get them again..
good heat but waaaay too much ash...leave some Hard ass speedbumps in the burnpot.
I have a harman so pellet lenght is no problem but O'Malley's have to be some of the longest pellets out there.

I have never burned Alleghaney pellets but was told they are comparable to Dry Creek, which I was not impressed with last year. Does Allengheny only have one quality pellet? Maybe I should give them a try.

Did I read that right?? AWF WP 233/ton? As a dealer I can't land them for anywhere near that price. And we're quite a bit closer to the plant than you. So my freight cost should be much less. With that said, the AWF WP blows the doors off any of the other brands on your list. I'd suggest you buy as much as you can and stack them straight up to your ceiling. Great find.
