Electrical Connection Question for Wood Insert

Hi,
I am a brand new member just about to give the go ahead to putting in the Quadra Fire Voyager Grand insert. The installer says we need the power cord outside the fire box unit to connect to the closest outlet. Of all the inserts I've seen, I have never noticed an extension cord running out from the front of the unit. Is this common practice? Is it possible to connect the electrical to an outlet in back of the unit or even down the existing clean out into the basement? Any advice you can offer is much appreciated.

Brochure pictures seem to leave a few things out. Typically there is a cord outside. I dont know about other§ but Lopi and FPX offer inside wiring kits

Nationwide electrical codes say that a plug connected appliance has to have the plug in the room it is in. Glossy stove brochures don't recognize that. Just like they place stoves closer to combustibles than their UL rating allows.

Sometimes they don't even connect the chimney.

I didn't care for the cord sticking out either so I ran some SO cord inside conduit and protected the conduit with a high heat sleeve.

I have to custom make a faceplate so it will be hidden once that's done.

I put an outlet inside the firebox.

with an application like yours, I don't see any problem with running cord behind the stove. The key to any electrical installs is accessibility.
As long as the connections are available to service you should be just fine with your install.

I have an insert and the cord runs out along side the face corner of the hearth. The problem that I find is the cord is just electrical cord. Where the cord lays is where I like to place my clean out tools right after use. The problem is the tools are hot and might melt the factory blower cable. What I need to do is remove the OEM cord and run armor bx or mc cable down to the basement for power. This way the wiring is protected from heat and any other form of damage.
