Elmira insert pipe diameter

I have bought a house with a Elmira insert in the fireplace.
The insert seems to have a 7 inch out.
But the SS flex liner they installed has to fit inside a 6.6 x 10 inch clay liner. Plus the liner stops a few inches before it exits the chimney. So it is not installed correctly.

I will have someone come in to correct this now spring is here. But what I would like to know is if we can install a 6 inch liner. Just put an adapter from 7 to 6 inches on the stove (insert)

This Elmira insert is just a steel box with a hole at the back, no baffles or anything.

You could do a 6" liner but it still will be a very tight fit and there will be no way to insulate it properly. Also the stove may not work very well being downsized. If i were doing the install i would either break out the old liners or install an ovalized 8" liner or a rectangle one which ever would fit better.

Yes they would you could also look at duraliner if the chimney is very straight it is preinsulated rigid liner and it comes in oval.

Yes the chimney is about 20 feet and straight. Except for right at the stove end where the pipe goes through what was once the damper.

I personally would use all flex but some here really like the duraliner

Duraliner makes a flex connector for getting through the damper area.

I had an old Elmira in my house when I bought it a few years ago. It was not done right just like yours. It was cheaper to buy a good used EPA stove and put in a new 6 " liner than buy one of the ovalized 8" liners. I have the same flue size as you as well. I could not fit the 6" down with the wrap insulation. It did just barely fit down and I used the pour in insulation. Good luck.
