Englander 25-PDVC Convection Blower Died

The room blower let out a loud scream for a few minutes then just up and died 5 hours later. Removed the inlet screen and the fan cage is stiff to turn. I just pulled the whole fan..cleaned it out and lubed the motor through the 2 holes. Jumpered it to a wall plug and all it does is HUMMMMMM with no rotation even with the fan cage removed.

Anything else I can try before I order a new motor and dig a grave for this one..?? I

Are you mechanically inclined? The bearings are toast. The set screw is a 3mm. After getting the set screw out, it will have left a scored area on the shaft making removal of the cage a pain. It works best with two people to remove the cage, one to hold it and one to use a punch to drive the shaft down. Next remove the housing and then you can CAREFULLY remove the cooling fan. Now you have to break the case at the seam to get the shaft out. If you think this is for you, post again and I can give some more help. These motors are made to be thrown away, not serviced, but I like a challenge. (Plus I'm cheap.)

I've got the cage off now and the motor shaft won't spin just hums...looks like bearings for sure. Was just about to split the motor housing to take a peak, but i don't have any replacement parts so whats the point. dam

$200 for a replacement motor..looks like I'm heading down to my auto electric shop monday to see if they can change out those bearings, or shop around for a motor that will work.

They are a pretty standard bearing. Grainger has them, you can also get them from ebay.

Thanks for the reply there Bud.. Looks like I got it freed up with penetrating oil...the motor was pretty dirty..lack of cleaning I guess, but who pulls motors apart as general maintenance. Been running for 1/2 hour now burning off the oil..little smoke.

Dare I put it back together and instal...?? All the tools are still out....not feelin the luv.

Well she's all put back together and running again. Guess time will tell. Been a little too up close and personal with the Englander lately.

Change the bearings in that motor as soon as you can, they will not last much longer.

This is a direct replacement...I'm on second season testing this. The good and bad is it has sleave bushings (bearings)

The pdvc takes the 3000 rpm 140 cfm blower.

You guess?? Lack of proper maintenance is no excuse for mechanical failure You do take a shower when you are dirty don't you? Duh.

She just woke me up with the dreaded dry bearing SCREAM. It ran fine from 0300-0900. I'll get it to the electrical shop first thing tomorrow morning. That was alot of work for a 6 hour run time.

I thought my stove has been well maintained other than removing the motors for clean and lube. Your telling me you do this on your stove..?? It wasn't that dirty other than some dust bunnies in the windings.

I'd pay the $90 for a replacement fan motor in a heart beat, some things should not be saved. Any idea as to where I might find one in the Belleville/Kingston area tomorrow..?? I'll still drop it off to my electrical shop in the am to see if it can be saved.

Just shut the stove down as the motor let out her last scream before it died. The good thing is that the temp is warming up for the next few days.

The last one I did, I got the motor from princess auto for $14! My friend ordered the one from sears a couple of months ago and picked it up on Wellesley island. It's hit or miss at princess auto.

Yeah, if you like drilling and tapping new mount holes and having the wrong cfm blower on it AND the inlet on the stove being a smaller opening than the blower outlet. So yeah, it'll work....

It's the wrong rpm! The original on his stove is 3000 the one you posted is 1500....

I'm actually confused....the title of the thread is 25 pdvc but your sig says 25 pdv......which one do you need a blower for, they are two different animals....
