I am attempting to decide on a wood stove. I have a tri-level home and I am going to put a wood stove on the main level (above basement and family room). I have ~1,300 sq ft to heat in the main room (cathedral ceilings) and upstairs bedrooms. I have spray foam insulation on the exterior walls and r38 in the ceilings. Would the Englander nc30 be overkill? Should I go with a smaller stove? The value seems to good to pass up. Please let me know your thoughts. It's getting cold in New England and I am going to move quickly in a purchase.

P.s. I have seasoned wood ready to go as I knew I would be purchasing a wood stove this season.

I installed a 30 a month ago. It replaced a smaller 2.5ish cubic foot century. I find it easier to run at a cooler temp consistantly then the old one, but it will crank out the heat if I need it. Just takes a little practice. Besides, windows were meant to be opened!

You could do with a smaller stove. A 2 cu ft Pacific Energy Super 27 will provide long burn times in a smaller stove. Or consider a cat stove from BK or Woodstock. In the Englander line take a look at the next-size-down Madison. http://www.amfmenergy.com/50masmheup18.html
