I know many of you have reached out to us inquiring about how our competitor was able to certify to EPA Phase 2, especially with many of the issues that have been raised on this forum. We've been trying to be patient with the EPA during this process, but will no longer stay silent. We originally started to inquire about this with the EPA on 3/21/2019.

If I were a consumer who purchased one under false pretenses or another manufacturer who wasn't allowed the same exemption, I would be distraught.

Many might not be aware of how the testing process works, but you must achieve all four burn levels. Category 4 is the easiest to achieve.

This is an example of bureaucracy at its finest.

Thanks for posting and good luck. Unfortunately, there are scores of heaters that did not follow the certification test procedures properly and probably should not be certified. But for the most part, those with the expertise to read and understand test reports stay quiet, as its a big can of worms. The fact that you are not staying quiet is important because it keeps the EPA on its toes and keeps a level playing field, as all manufacturers should apply test methods the same way. This is article hits the nail on the head.

Take them to court. seems like the sort of thing you could get a preliminary injunction on them selling their product if it is obviously flawed and it's sales are hurting your business.

Fire Chief/Shelter/HY-C customers that bought these things need to file a class action suit IMO...and file complaints with the CPSC (or whoever handles unsafe products) pretty bad when you can't even make them safe to use, let alone clean burning!

And to think that right now this is all you can purchase for a wood furnace at Menards, fleet farm or any of the box stores. Just think how many more of these POS will be out there now that the other choices at the box stores have gone away.

Just saw one at local Menards and in the Fleet Farm sale flyer. The Menard's unit has been on display for a while.
