Hi all
So we have recently purchased a house wire a beautiful Esse Ironheart or so we thought. The condition was appalling... we had it swept etc and the shear volume of coal and mess in it was disgusting. A real health hazard.
It is working much better but there are still a few things we need some help with
The system is also heats the water in the house and provides all radiator heat
We are burning kiln dried wood
The house is a 1930s home and there are no airbricks
1. When opening the door it releases quite a bit of smoke in to the room which lingers in the air and is rather unpleasant. n e suggestions? We crack the door first etc.
2. The glass is sooty continuously
2. We have had it running for the last couple of days. Hot water is flowing well but he radiators are very very slowly warming up one at a time and if the esse is not burning full pelt lose their heat quickly. They have all been bled.
Any suggestions / thoughts would be most welcome. We really need your help please to get this working as efficiently as we know

What a treat. That is a wonderful stove. Are you using the bypass and opening the bypass a minute or two before opening the firebox door? Are you warming up the firebox and stove top before closing the bypass? Have all the passages around the oven been thoroughly cleaned?

Yes we have given it a serious clean everywhere and replaced the seals around the glass and door.
By the bypass do you mean the primary secondary dampers or the lever on the top opening the flue?
Which level is it your recommend we open a couple of minutes before???
 
One of the cleanest lines cooking stove out there IMO.

I am guessing by "bypass" he means the oven damper.

Sooty glass is usually from running too cold, or bad wood which you said kiln dried so that theory is out (unless not really kiln)

Are you measuring the temperature on the flue? Whats it reading if so?

The flue damper which is to the right of the secondary control should be pulled out. (I was calling this the bypass damper) Both the primary and secondary (airwash) controls should be open (to the left) for startup. Once the fire is burning well, close the primary air control and use the secondary air control to regulate the fire. Once the stove top has warmed up, close the flue damper. That will divert the hot flue gases around the oven.
