Everyone sees firewood prices.

Almost nobody sees the hours behind them.

Cutting, splitting, stacking, sourcing, seasoning, handling, equipment wear, fuel, and taxes all add up fast. Firewood isn't overpriced, it's just widely misunderstood.

This isn't a rant. Just the math and reality of processing wood for a living.

I don’t complain about those prices. I consider cut split and delivered firewood to be one of the best bargains compared to doing it myself. Past handful of years I’ve done it all myself. I’ve got a little tractor with a bucket, which helps a lot, moving it around and lifting. It takes me an insane amount of time to put up a cord, even with the tractor and electric splitter. I’m compelled to do it for some reason, but I know it’s insane compared to buying it.
