Extending Harman Room Sensor Probe

Folks, I have a real simple question. I am contemplating extending the Room Sensor probe on my p61a. My silly question is: exactly how have you guys done that? Cut off the end near the stove and attach a longer piece of 18-2? Insert a length of wiring in the middle? What exactly is the probe at the end of the wire? I assume I need to retain/use this piece of the existing wire.

I realize this is kind of a silly question, but I have not seen any detailed descriptions of the process. Thanks.

You can extend it at the stove end. I have added 20 ft. to mine. You need to keep the other end intact as that is the actual temp sensor.

The end is a thermistor, it changes electrical resistance based on its temperature, it is required to run the stove in room temp setting. You can run a max of 50 feet of wire from the stove using 18-2 wire. You need to leave the end intact but you can cut the middle of the wire and use wire nuts to splice in more wire or you can get some male/female quick disconnects like what are already on the stove end of the room sensing probe and crimp those onto your new wire to extend it.

Thanks, folks. I kinda thought that. I don't have the correct terminal spades that are the exisitng room sensor. Gotta get those.

Why extend it?
Why not just lift up the temp a few degrees to account for the distance to the cooler spot.
Just put a $2 themometer in the spot where you want at a particular temp and adjust the current set up to suit. Saves a lot of mucking around with wires.

I think some people extend it to the next room past the stove so as to get a more even warmth as opposed to have the "Stove room" warmer than the rest of the house
which happens when the probe is close to the stove or in the same room.

Yep I'm having the same issue will be extending mine this weekend

I extended ours because the space between the back of stove and wall was quite cool. (coiled up sensor and insulation issues)
Before the extension was installed, occasionally the stove would ramp up the heat because of the cool air behind the stove.
So, I used existing holes in the floor to extend it to the opposite corner. The "thermistor" end hangs off the furnace thermostat.
I soldered all connections for the new piece of wire.
Zero problems now. Enjoy the stove!!
