Question:

Help! Can you tell me what materials/products are available to my builder to extend the masonry chimney in my home upwards in order to accomodate new cathedral ceilings? I appreciate your assistance.

Answer:

THere are only two possibiliites:

1.extend with masonry - brick or cement block around a tera cotta flue tile.

2. Convert to metal insulated chimney - This is possible, but expensive. It's possible to uyse a large insulated class A chimney (10" or 12") and use an anchor plate on top of the old masonry to convert to this. Then, this metal chimney can be run through the roof.
