I don't have the answer, but what is the flue like currently? what's its construction?

Yeah, we need a little more info. If you fireplace doesnt have a chimney, you could use an anchor plate and use class A pipe outside. You may want to box it in and insulate it after. If your concerned about a fireplace with an existing chimney, you could line the chimney with a stainless steel liner.

12"x12” tile-lined cement block -stone chimney. I would like to know what the best way to go with a new flue for a wood burning insert.
Again thanks for your help

Assuming your buying an insert with a 6" flue, I would go with a 6" insulated stainless steel liner.
