I am bringing attention to an old post (not open for further replies). It discusses a fault that was shipped in a few BK stoves, including mine, roughly 15 years ago. I'm sure BK has long since dealt with this problem. But just in case there's some poor sucker reading this who can't figure out why their stove seems to be behaving oddly, here it is. In particular, check out posts #1 and #16.
And let me repeat that it is NOT my attention to be bashing BK with this post. This is my 51st year heating almost exclusively with wood. I have owned half a dozen stoves over this time and the BK is far and away the best. I have a couple of friends and family who heat with wood and I regularly BEG them to get a BK; I tell 'em "when you finally do, you're going to kick yourself for not doing it sooner". And the fact that there is a senior member of the company, with deep technical knowledge, who participates in discussions here and responds to PMs, is amazing.

Well folks, I had a suspicion I had a problem - ever since I got my new
BK Princess Ultra (freestanding) last autumn, and it looks like I was right.
I finally removed the cover on the thermostat. I tried to do it awhile
back, and after I removed the two square-drive screws, it was still
really stuck in the back (up against the stove) and I was afraid to beat
on it too hard, given the dire warnings against removing said cover (on
the sticker). But the tech guy at BK said it was fine to remove it, once
he realized I wasn't an idiot. And with the stove hot, it came off
quite easily...
