I am bringing attention to an old post (not open for further replies). It discusses a fault that was shipped in a few BK stoves, including mine, roughly 15 years ago. I'm sure BK has long since dealt with this problem. But just in case there's some poor sucker reading this who can't figure out why their stove seems to be behaving oddly, here it is. In particular, check out posts #1 and #16.

And let me repeat that it is NOT my attention to be bashing BK with this post. This is my 51st year heating almost exclusively with wood. I have owned half a dozen stoves over this time and the BK is far and away the best. I have a couple of friends and family who heat with wood and I regularly BEG them to get a BK; I tell 'em "when you finally do, you're going to kick yourself for not doing it sooner". And the fact that there is a senior member of the company, with deep technical knowledge, who participates in discussions here and responds to PMs, is amazing.

The backwards wrapped spring can still happen. Although not recently. We're very diligent but mistakes can happen.

This is kinda fun. Didn't post these video clips originally. For the faulty thermostat, "tstat-bad" shows the flapper opening slightly when I blow on it with a hair dryer. Then "tstat-good" shows the operation of a correctly-functioning thermostat (much more noticeable than the "bad" one).

Of course you wouldn't pull the thermostat out like this unless you've confirmed its badness "in situ" as I describe in the old thread.

I couldn't figure out how to make these videos just play when you click on 'em. It'll download them to your computer, so you may not feel comfortable doing that. But I promise I'm not trying anything fishy :-)
