Few questions about Vermont Castings Madison installation (heat shield and blower questions)?

Hello everybody,

I have few questions regarding Vermont Castings Madison:

1. What benefits would I obtain from installation of top stove fan such as Eco Fan or should I get ceiling fan instead or both?
2. Would I benefit from installing rear heat shield & installing the Heat-n-Glo blower kit (GFK-160A) which would blow on the rear heat shield? I noticed that the rear of the stove does not get hot compared to the top.
3. I have currently installed bottom heat shield? Is there a way to eliminate bottom heat shied? Can I install blower underneath and get rid of the heat shield?
4. I wonder if addition of fans will help me reclaim more heat?

The room where I have the stove is not too hot compared to other rooms since I cut part of wall to help air move upstairs (via staircase). Additionally, I installed wall register and installed fan which pushes decent amount of air to the next room.

You can put ceiling fans etc in ot move heat. I wouldn't bother with trying to retrofit a stove fan on to it. It's not going ot help reclaim any more heat. It sounds like you've done everything you can to try ot move the heat. Maybe you can try controlling heat output by fire size regulation?

The issue is to get as much heat as possible to achieve the task of heating 2600 sq.ft home. Initially, I intended this stove just for downstairs but my wife wants the whole house to be heated. I said that even Defiant would not be capable of achieving it on cold days.
 
even if you run that stove at peak effeciency it not going to heat 2600 sq ft. Let's face you furnace is probably 125,000 BTus or larger It is impossible for a stove running around an average of 30,000 to cary that home. So it can't carry your entire heat demand. It will still produce heat It could supply all heat needed to 25 degrees outside. (Not ethched in stone)
from there it still will reduce the number of times you burner cycles you are still saving fuel. I think you need to set realistic goals the area around that stove will be warm as you move further away it will get cooler some box fans along the floor or ceiling fan may move heat around but nothing one can do about re-engineering the stove changes the firebox size and wood Btus,

And yes the Defiant capacity is better matched for the size

What benefits would I get after installation of rear heat shield. Would blower bring additional benefits such as less chances of overfiring?
 
I doubt the blower would offer any protection against over firing. The rear heat shield will let you set the stove closer to the wall. I don't remember this stove having a blower option from the factory. So really I would be concerned that any retrofit fan you install could have adverse effects on firebox temperature.

This stove does not have an option to install blower. What is other implication of rear heat shield than smaller clearances to a wall? Would it mean that stove would lose less heat through the rear? If yes, where would this gained heat go to the room I assume. Would it make stove hotter because of that? Thanks.
