Finally finished the new fp install with pics!

Never thought i'd say this but man, i can't wait for winter. Thanks for all the advice from other members and the generally great information on this forum.

We decided on the FPX 36 elite by Travis Industries. My wife wanted to have a more modern/contemporary look to the fireplace to better match the style of our house. I think we acheived that with the mosaic tile, cabinets, and mantel. We got the idea for the tile from one of the other members wh had finished his in much the same way.

And now for the pics (it didn't happen without them, right).

We started with an old gas log insert. We completely tore this and the chase out. Built a new chase to a more center location in the room. Installed the new unit. Added the tile to the face with a custom mantel and bookcases. There you go. Hope you like the transformation. I know we do and that's what matters. Momma's happy.

I took the advice of one of the other members and raised it 3 1/2" to allow for easier loading. We used metal studs under the unit to get it up just a bit. The downside to this is that it also raised the mantel in order to maintain the mfg clearance requirement. But, all in all, we are happy with the install and can't wait to start enjoying this baby when the cooler weather sets in.

I could personally never have an install like this, I would be freaked out that my unit would have a defect or something! Doesn't look too easy to swap the unit out.

Easy? No. But, I did test the unit out before I sealed it up. Worst case, if I have a failure in the future, I would have to remove the tile to get the unit out. Of course, that is true of all the zero clearance products on the market and why I chose a product with a very good reputation and did my research before making this purchase.
