I have a Hearth Heater which has been very nice in my little cabin. I started burning wood pellets when I ran out of wood. I first made a basket, but now just put them in. They burn clean and hot.
I've found that the best way for me to get it going is with gelled alcohol.
I wanted to find out how to make it as the commercial stuff costs way too much. I read a vague description on a chemistry site to use egg shells, vinegar, and alcohol. I've been collecting egg shells for years and tried combining these things to no avail.
Anyone know how to make gelled alcohol?

How does a cabin run out of wood? Is it on a boat? ;)

I would look into getting a pellet stove if you want to burn pellets.

Lots of recipes for homemade sterno online.

Or stop at your local supermarket and get a few wax covered produce boxes. A couple strips ought to be able to get them started.

Try a box of SuperCedars. You will be spoiled. Break the big patty into quarters. A quarter section will start dry wood easily. Mention Hearth17 for a discount. https://www.supercedar.com/
