Question:
Help - this problem happens often and is frustrating us as to why. What causes smoke to back up in the fireplace and then smoke out our room? We've noticed this happens on rainy days especially. Could it just be that the circulation can be wierd? Any ideas? I'm ready to install a gas line & forget about wood. Thanks for any help you can give on this problem.
Answer:
Has to do with draft and air currents in the home. Some extensive writings on it at https://www.hearth.com/what/specific.html (scroll down to the chimney and how to start and tend a wood fire) and in the Q and A section at https://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/QA_Templates/search//
