Are the Fireside Ultra pellets being sold at Home Depot hardwood or softwood as there is very little info on the bags and the people working there had no idea. Could someone who has used these pellets last year let me know how you liked them (heat output, ash, duarabilty, etc)? Thanks.

Hardwood. They burned super for me. Very little ash and was quite warm. Maybe a tablespoon or two was in bags for fines. I'd burn again.

Does a Wal Mart worker know much about their chit? lol

WOW...now that is surprising...Nobody selling pellets at HD knew anything about them...(HEAVY sarcasm)...... ;-)

Yeah, big surprise. I bought 4 ton of Greene Team recently from Lowes because I could not refuse the $231 a ton price based on the reviews. When I went to pick them up the forklift operator grabbed a different brand. When I told him I only wanted the Greene Team he said "there is no difference, they are all the same." He went on to say that corporate had told them that all the pellets they stocked were the same and just bagged differently. Needless to say I gave the poor guy a lecture on pellet quality. He had to move a bunch of other pallets to get to what I wanted. It's not the employees fault as they are only passing on what they are told.

I'd still rather buy from local dealers like BTU, but could not pass up the price.

I went through pretty much the same thing at Lowes. But they didnt tell me they were all the same. I always keep about 2 1/2 ton the the basement....then for my final purchase I go and buy 30 bags that fit perfectly into my living room closet for ease of grabbing and I keep it filled all winter from the basement supply. Well...I went and bought my final 30 bags to put in the closet..... I pay for them....I wait for them....they brought them and what I wanted was green team or maine choice which I knew they had plenty of. They bring me something different.....I ended up getting what I want :)

If the dealers could match price and service I would choose dealers too. I have a trailer I pick mine up with that holds 1 ton...but I dont plop the pallet down on the axle....I take apart and spread them out on the trailer. At lowes or HD....they send an army to help load.....I barely lift a bag. At the dealers.....when they find out I have to hand load....they plop the pallet next to trailer and take off. Service is everything to me....

I'm not sure hard or softwood but I burned 3 tons of these and one ton of Penningtons and these were better hands down. The burned fairly hot and did not produce excessive ash.

My experience with fireside has proven to be satisfactory in 2007. Could not get them in my area in 08. They are not great but affordable and available now. There is more ash and more cleaning required than some of the more expensive brands. As always, if they are not stored properly there will be problems and complaints.
So I would say a decent low end pellet. I don't think they were a member of the pellet institue either.

I used them last year. The heat was OK but definitely dirtier than the Lignetics and Dry Creek Pellets I used. If you have a choice I would use something else. If you don't they will suffice If you don't mind the extra cleaning that comes with burning them.

Im burning them right now in my p68.I was using NEWP brown label and so far these seem to be better...Lighter fluffy ash and there is hardly any.
The brown NEWP IMO were crap. I still have 15 bags from last year to burn, but I think the Fireside were so far worth the 60/ton savings so far in my p68
