First fire of the season

59* outside now and going into the 40's. I don't really need a fire but it feels damp inside and I just want to sit and have a beer with my stove.

One morning was in the high 30s, so I did a short test
on the stove and the furnace. Would hate to wake up
to a really cool morning, and my heat source needs repair

Yesterday it was 41* but the house only got down to 67* so I was wearing a sweatshirt for half the day. The sun angel is such that shadows are long on the east and south sides, so I don't get the solar gain to warm up the place until lateer in the day.

Currently the house is 68* (2:30 am), so if it drops too much more I'll be firing up the mini split for a quick warm up. Pellet stoves are still in their summer hibernation. Even if I started the main floor stove now, the house would heat up too much and I'd be having to cool it off.

I was thinking last night that it is about time to unplug the exhaust and OAK to the main floor stove though, check everything (I'm pretty sure I cleaned it last spring, but never hurts to check). Basement stove still has a while before I think about getting it ready.

I did my full - just before the season service a couple weeks ago, but haven't fired it up yet. We had a couple mornings in the mid to upper 40's but it's warmer again now. I got 4 tons of pine pellets delivered last Monday and I'm kind of looking forward to the fire.

I usually to 2 annual cleanings/service. at the end of the season, I do a thorough ash clean, including scaping the inside walls and brushing the whole vent, Leef blower trick, cap the vent and outside air, and put a container of DampRid in the ash container.

Then right before the season is my second service. I inspect gaskets, get the chimney ready, lube the bearings on all 3 motors with Wurth HHS+ which migrates into the bearings, lube the bearings and pivot points on the feed mechanism, wipe everything down, and use some stove black polish if needed.

I've been running my P43 since it got installed this year in Feb. I have to do the cleaning, but the weather is nice here this fall. I have my 2 pallets (140 bags)in the driveway now. Got a new fuse panel with switches up and running (5 fuses/switches). Going to change the door gasket as it leaks. Love it.

Did my annual maintenance on the XXV this week. Stove pipe cleaned (including new exhaust gasket). Pulled and cleaned both the combustion and circulation motors. Also a good vacuum and brushing in the burn area. Haven't fired it up yet (and hoping I won't have to for a few more weeks) but, set to go with 3 tons in the garage.

Need heat this morning . Syove is on house is starting to warm.
Just checked first time in 15 years we have needed the stove this early in the fall
Maybe what they are saving long, cold, dry winter on the way

Wow I didn't expect it to be so cold there so soon! We went down to about 8 C the last couple of nights. I have the heat pumps on heat mode now and heated the house up (the main floor) with them this morning. The basement is cool but that is OK. Going to clean stove today. You were right about the amount of dust I'd find in my venting. Maybe a couple of cups of dry dust. NO CREOSOTE! YES!

If your burn is correct, you will never have any creosote
I have never had any in 23 years of using pellets!!

I just finished mine too (P43). I am going to post some pics that may help new owners. You have a really nice setup!

Most years I have my first burn anywhere from 9/5 to 9/29. In 2017, my first burn was 8/31. I haven't had a first burn yet. Probably will uncap the exhaust and hook up the OAK to the P43 next weekend.

I've had the mini split supplying heat the last 3 nights as the temps get down in the 30's and the house cools off. Even with solar gain the house is only getting to 70-71* so I have the mini split set at 68.

Cleaned our stove this week, took two and half hours to do the full cleaning and blow out the chimney.
Weather turning cooler so fired up the stove last night for a test and all working well.
Will be running the mini-splits until temps get below 40F.

Well, had to run the stove this am, -6c and 10cm of snow overnight
