First fire

Yep, it's 38 outside and 57 inside so what's a wood burning guy to do? He quickly vacuums out the soot that he brushed down 18 feet from above and puts the interior chimney pipes back together and fires up the stove for the first time this year.... Ah..... The heat is good and the flames hypnotizing while enjoying my morning coffee as I wander what this winter will bring... Hmm....

Im planning on a test burn sunday morning. Suppose to be in the mid 50*Saturday nite. But i wont light up for heat for prolly 4 to 6 weeks and then only to warm the house up in the morning. Stay warm up there.

Well, last October felt like November and they're saying this month feels like October. You never know what you'll get up here. Maybe part of that is our wide temperature range through out the year. It's about 140 degrees in range as we can go down to 40 below zero F and up to 100 in the summer even though we never hit 90 this summer and only barely went over 80 twice. A pretty mild summer with only a little over a hundred cooling degree days.

Just lit up. Kind of an early start to the season. My wife left the screen door open last night, and its been cold inside all day. 42 and raining. Time for fire.

42 outside 60 inside time for a small fire . With wood from my family farm no need to use any other source for heat.

Heck yeah! I'm on my 3rd small fire for the day and this one brought the place up to 68 and it's drying it out some in here too.

Chimney was spotless until the last 4 feet, then it rained down.

Stove is on Steady right now as its forecast 30F tonight.

Burned for a couple hours in my shop the last two mornings to get the chill off. Days are getting shorter, nights are getting colder, the hours of good warmth in the afternoons are dwindling. We're still seeing 80°F some afternoons, but it drops rather quickly into the low 40°F's overnight...so evenings are still pleasant enough, but mornings are starting to get plenty chilly. Time to shift to the lined jeans and long-sleeved lined shirts is fast approaching. It's getting to where I have to wait until at least noon to drive my convertible with the top down!

Had our second break in fire tonight. It was about 65 outside and even with the windows open it got pretty warm. Even the dogs were like: yeah, we don't need this yet.

Lows in the 40's and high tomorrow in the 60's looks like I will be firing up the stove before bed for a small fire to keep the house warm tonight. Looks like we warm back up to highs in the 70's all next week so only 1 day.

My dad in Vancouver likes to email me in March saying hes mowing the lawn and showing off whats coming up in the garden. 4th night in a row Ive had a fire. Another killer frost this morning. The forecast keeps saying its going to get nicer but I guess that wont start until tomorrow...

Cold here too. 35 last night. Frost warning tonight. Nice and toasty inside.
Funny, Wednesday night we had the windows open to stay cool. Last night while the stove was going, the upstairs air conditioning kicked in because it got too warm. Oops, turned that off till this Sunday when it's supposed to get back to 80. Colorado climate is so weird. I love it.

same here so we got a small fire going just to take the chill off. Not to happy about it being cold enough to lit up already. Feels like a rainy cold late fall day. I prefer my falls to be 60 and sunny at least til mid Oct. Weathers so screwy lately.

I got mine on as well. Not really feeling the love. Far to early to burn but the forces air ain't kicking in which is money in the bank I guess.

will be enjoying extra blankets and some long johns for a few more weeks unless it dips below 40..which it shouldn't hopefully. even then i got a cord of cottonwood with shoulder season written all over it. even if a rare below 40 day pops up we will probably go the heating blanket route untill the highs drop into the low 40s. Fall is the best.
