Its about 1:45 am and got bored so I lit a fire with some red oak (my first time). It was great being part of this forum because I would have burned it last year if I had not known about the long seasoning time. It was seasoned 2.5 years and this stuff is freaking my out. I really am loving it. Last year I burned black birch and locust but this red oak burns quite a bit different. Can't wait till the real cold stuff comes in!

I burned some last year but it was split on the small side, but I could tell it would burn really nice when I got some bigger ones dry. Burned long and coaled great. Bulk of the wood burned last year was White Ash, soft Maple, Cherry. This year, Oak will be a big percentage. I've got some 2 yr Red and some White that's been stacked 3 summers. I'm assuming it's good to go but didn't test it yet. Maybe I should do that.

Patience is rewarded. You get so many more BTUs out when that stuff is dry. Plus, your chimney stays cleaner and there's less smoke.

I like red oak, worked up over 3 cord last year. Splits pretty much any way you want it and burns hot. Doesn't leave much ash.

Come to think of it we have some 3-year-old red in the leftover stack. I better use it this winter. :)

My favorite wood by far. Splits real easy, puts out great heat, not to mention it's in plentiful supply around here.
