First time leaf blower trick!

Been burning Hamers in my GFI55 since November doing shop vac stove, pipe and fire box cleaning every few weeks. I started noticing lazy flame and clinkers filling the fire pot. I was starting to think I got into a bad run of pellets. Well I figured I would try the leaf blower trick on my next cleaning so I did it the other day. What a mess ;-D My entire back yard was in a cloud of dust! So far she is burning 100% better and no clinkers!

This was the first time in my 4th heating season dong this. I'm going to add it to my mid-winter, spring cleaning routine from now on.

I wonder if anyone ever rigged up some sort of filter for the LBT? No desire to do it given the mess it makes, but if I could capture most of that soot and prevent a cloud...

Ideas?

Many of the leaf blowers being used are actually dual blower/vacs. They come with a bag and a nozzle that sucks up leaves. You could keep the bag attached when doing the LBT, it might keep some of the soot out of the air.

I do mine from the inside, I blow it up and out. does one heck of a job, best done on windy day. also, no climbing around on snow covered roof.

You dont get some blowback into the room? Geesh, my other half would make my life hell if I screwed that one up!

Did mine over the weekend too. I used my electric one before and it wasn't all that impressive, but once I got that gas powered blower, holy cow. LOL

I made a gasket for the end of the blower, I roll my insert out of the fireplace, stick the blower where the insert mates the pipe and with the gasket I made it fits tight.no blow back, but just in case, I do it when the wifes not home.

Cheap Home depot model fit;s right Inside the Pipe snug....
I just block the Horizontal with a rag. then after block the Vertical with same rag...

It made a mess of my back porch but heck I had the blower out so I just used it on the porch. I was outside so I had no way to see if it dusted the inside but I did not notice anything. I did it with the door open and closed.
