Its not a very good heater. Its an amazing heating machine No other stove I know of can keep a 2400 sqft house at 90 degrees when its 10 degrees outside with no blower running and thats not running the stove hard just normal operation of course no such temperature as that around here last winter but maybe this winter

I seen one in operation at a dealer close to me..almost bought it.
I just wanted to try a cat and I had a non cat bk for years..so I went in that direction and I'm like you..very happy..and that's all that counts!

No one is knocking a Blaze King. It is, well a Blaze King. Heck I will probably even put a King in my work shop next year. I will probably want the burn times bad enough to pay for it for this application.

Woodstock makes a beautiful stove that works damn well. Good chance I may have one in the house someday. The looks of the other stoves are just not our taste so it is either a steel box or a soapstone. I even made sure to size my new raised hearth to fit a PH.

That being said I actually love my secondary stove and really have no true complaints about it. I can heat this joint on 2-3 loads a day even down to 0*. I heated 1,500 sq. ft. with 10' ceilings last year on less than 2.5 cords. Normal winter in a fairly cold climate should be 3-4 cords a year. As far as efficiency, I'm sure at least at times a cat would be more efficient. However I don't see it being enough to offset the cost difference. Let's look at it this way, where I live I could buy and have delivered, split, and stacked 25 cords (yes real cords not face cords) of wood for the cost difference between a BKK and my stove.

As far as having a King in the house, I would go bonkers not being able to reload the stove for a day and a half while staring at black glass. By the end of 24 hours I would be taking out the half burnt wood, throwing it outside in the fire pit, cleaning the glass, and restarting the stove. I get ticked when I put a large block of wood in and I get a slight haze in a spot on the glass on a 10-12 hour burn. I also hate it in shoulder season like this when it gets too warm and I have to let the stove go cold. Different strokes for difference folks.

truth be told, i always pause when i see one of the older jotul cat stoves on craigslist. there's something about them... winter is one long shoulder season here, so i imagine i'd be just as happy as with the endeavor. but don't tell it.

i had a CDW cat stove i used for years to heat the house.....i replaced it with the pe summit and i found it hard to burn at first....i have a little jotul upstairs and use that most of the time and love it. i run it at about 300 degrees on the pipe. which would i prefer....i think the answer is....it depends. i don't miss buying those cats at all......but then, i havent had to replace a burn tube either.....let me know how it goes.

I have a tube stove and would seriously consider a cat stove the next time around if for nothing else then the simple fact that I can probably easily teach others to run the cat stove.

Other then when reloading maybe ...because of the size of the firebox..wonder what the problem would be?
Seems it would be easier to keep a 6" flue warmer then a 8.

I have a tall 6" flue and can't see a difference based on observations of several friends that also have the same stove but with an 8". I've had zero issues with the 6", in fact I'd say it might work better with the cat as the smaller diameter helps keep the flue temps up slightly (which is a plus as the cat doesn't allow much heat to build in flue anyway).

Or, you know, any stove large enough to provide heat for your specific needs. Last I checked, a Harmen works just fine, which, has no burn tubes, by the way.

I meant no disrespect. I nearly bought the Harmon with the grill insert as I thought it was a great idea. The guys at work convinced me if I wanted to heat the house in our sub zero temps to get the blaze king. Otherwise I could get the "chicken stove". Their words. I am so glad they talked me into the blaze king. It is keeping up with our -40 weather we are having. Brrrrrrrr.

I can pack it tight and not worry about it for 10 to 12 hours on occasion it will go up to 14 hours with good hard wood like oak and still be warm inside the house. That said if I bought another stove I think it would be a Woodstock soapstone or Blaze King. Most likely Blaze King because I like personal shake hands support thats just me though. Nothing against Woodstock they are great too.

I only bought mine because the gov had that 1/3 kickback on taxes ..so the hit was softened some!
Would have been 3200 plus 8% tax..and the dealer would not budge.

Thats a good price 3200 ! We had a hard time finding one under 4000 and the dealers around us charged for the door and pedestal separate. I did not want to go over 2600 for a stove and we managed it nicely with the Jotul.
