Feeling the Heat

Neighbor just moved in and has offered this to me.

Would go in our 3 seasons room as a “toy”. Not looking for anything super efficient (the room is not insulated and is simply a room to enjoy the views out back in the yard and enjoy coffee and quiet time). Hoping to maybe squeeze another month out of the room on either side of fall or winter (maybe into November early December and open it back up in March instead of April or May) for example.

Photos attached. Never heard of the brand. Definitely needs new gaskets. Also, the top metal lip above the glass is completely “removable” or broken. Unsealed at a minimum.

Any opinions? I have nothing invested either way. It’s free if I want it. If not, no big deal. I’m not opposed to investing some elbow grease if needed. But also don’t want a fire trap in my house.

That is cool looking, looks huge. Would be fun as a toy as you say. I'm guessing it eats wood about as fast as you can feed it.

I used to have a Russo. Different model but it’s always good to see one. As long as there are no air leaks and you replace the gaskets what the heck. I mean, just my opinion but free is free

Installing a new stove is far from free, even if the stove is free.

That stove is a broken smoke dragon that had 36" clearances back when it worked as designed.

Run away!

If you really want your porch stove, get a cheap $1000 tube stove. Bear in mind that the install will still probably cost more than the stove did.

A "free" stove is what got me started with this whole wood heat obsession!
Had $900 in the chimney before it ever blew smoke...and blow smoke it did! ;lol

Good point

I suppose if the inside isn't all burnt out ...
That's kind of a beast of a stove for shoulder season use.

look for a smaller stove. if you are heating a porch that thing will blow you out of it from over heating.
