Ok..so I know this thread will get some haters because just as there are those of you out there that really love your Okies, there are also those of you that really hate your freedom fuel but.....

I picked up 10 bags (limit) of freedom fuel from my local TSC the other day and it was my first time with this pellet. I know I've read some bad things about this pellet but I'm just trying to stock up for now to get me through the end of the season. Well I'll be damned if these things don't remind me of the pile of Okies I had a couple of seasons ago. Very bright yellowish pellet cut real small with very little dust in the bag. A crisp, clean pellet if you will. So far they burn very similar as well with good but not overwhelming heat. Sorry if I'm insulting you Okenagen groupies but to me these things are very similar.

any chance you can post a pic of the bag,
I'm curious if they are the "freedom" pellets that I have been burning. If they are I cant imagine anybody having issues with them, as they are the Hamers and Hamers seem to be one of the best.....

I've had the cat pee scented Okies and the vomit scented Okies. I avoid them now.

I've used Okies for quite a while and haven't come across those varieties.

Do they charge more for scenting them?

Actually when I bitched about the ones that smelled like puke, they gave me 10% off my next 3 tons. For those 3 tons I chose Vermont Softwoods, though.

Did you actually use the bad smelling ones?

The cat pee ones, yes, as the smell dissipated pretty quickly and you couldn't smell them at all once the hopper lid was closed. The puke smelling ones I brought back.

Wow, glad I have almost no sense of smell! Freedom Fuel is all I've found locally, I got four bags, eh, a week ago and my wife got six more from Lowes yesterday. Seems to burn OK although I've only burned perhaps 1-3/4 bags so far. I smell nothing unusual.

I'm on the other side if the country but I have expierenced stinky pellets. Golden Fire pellets smell sour while filling the hopper and stink up the whole house while burning. It smells like brakes, like if you slam on your breaks really fast.

This year's FSU , Oakies of 2009!!

I have one bag of Freedom Fuel that I found at Lowe's.

I have been afraid to burn them because they look like they were made with a bigger pellet die.

They're fatter, but shorter than any other brand I have come across.

I'm waiting to use them for the last week of the season on low setting.

Tried them few years ago, they were smaller in diameter then all the pellets i've ever burned, now there fatter?

Interesting. I picked up 5 bags of freedom fuel and when I opened them I was surprised how thin they were. Much thinner in diameter than anything else I have burned.

Weird. The freedom fuel that I burned were significantly thicker than the rest of the pellets I had. Shorter, but thicker. Interesting quality control...

If you look up the parent company of freedom fuel, they also own equine pine horse bedding. I bought twenty bags a while back from TSC and one bag stated 100% pine while the other 19 stated wood fiber. The ones that said wood fiber looked like a 50/50 mix of the pine bedding and a regular pellet. The one pine bag was all pine bedding with a small diameter and light color.

I got decent heat from them with average ash levels.

Yesterday I was readying a topic here that included a link to an article about the pellet shortage, and they mentioned that stove pellet makers sometimes make horse bedding pellets which work well at absorbing urine. I wonder if the pee-smelling ones are rebagged USED ones? _g
