Fresh cut Black Cherry = Low Moisture

I was cutting some Black Cherry down on the farm to clear some fence rows. I was amazed at the low moisture content in this freshly cut green tree. 25%-32%, I threw a round into my OWB to see how it would burn and to my surprise it burned very well and gave off no smoke.

Yeah, Cherry usually is more towards the drier side, but I wouldn't make a habit out of doing that on a steady basis, especially in a wood stove. But I guess a boiler is a different animal and can burn anything I would guess?

In winter time, water retreated down to the root.

Yeah, I wouldn't put anything 25% in my woodstove. Cherry can get to 15-18% in a year or so if in the right spot. Sun and wind preferably .

Got some year old Black Cherry firing off the secondaries and keeping warm right now.
