Don't know if this is doable, but I had a thought...
I am installing pavers in my backyard and want to put in a block round fire pit, standard size, not too big in diameter. The natural gas line is already there and my wife wants it to have those pretty colored stones that have flame dancing around. I wouldn't mind that for some parties, but wonder if I could also make the gas ring/pan removable (unscrew it?), and screw on a gas ring that I could place artificial logs so we an also cook marshmallows & weenies? Any suggestions? I live in San Diego county so freezing is a rare occurrence.

I don't see why that wouldn't be feasible.
I don't think I'd want to be chosen for the job
of cleaning all the marshmallow goop off the logs & burner, tho.
Another option would be to leave the burner in place &
simply replace the glass with logs when you wanted to have your roasts...
