The installer left an hour or two ago. He gave us a few options and what we decided to do is hook it up using a thimble and an external stainless chimney.
He told us around $800 for the labor of the install and hooking up the thimble/chimney. The big question is what is the shop going to want for all the parts required for the job? I'm hoping no more than $1000. But is there any way to get the parts factory direct or just cheaper than paying a stove shop?
They guy also said instead of a pipe going straight from the back of the stove to the wall is not as efficient (or something about there being no draft and more smoke) compared to coming up two feet and then elbowing into the wall/thimble. Thoughts on that?
We'd like to get some cream/off white grill or stove pipe paint and cover it up if we have to come up instead of going directly in. Another thing he pointed out is that stove pipe is cheap. Double walled chimney is not. So coming up two feet cuts off two feet of external chimney needed.
Please share your thoughts. Thanks!
