I'm in the market for a moisture meter, and there are so many choices on Amazon, I'm not sure where to even start. Are there any good recommendations that a lot of members here use? Or is this an item that most any will do just fine?

Specifically, I did notice a pinless meter that looked pretty good (to a guy who knows nothing about them!). Are these as good as the ones with pins?

Does this one look good?

Thanks!

Just get a two-pin type. The pinless types are for lumber where you don't want to poke holes. The pin-type ones all work on the same principle as each other and are plenty accurate, but some are more durable than others. No need to go more than around $15 but a lot of members here like the General brand that you can get locally. I see that my favorite (I broke my first one) is discontinued (the MD816)

Since my fav is not available, I'd suggest this General Tool model that so many on this site seem to like:

Thanks for the recommendation. Here I thought the General brand was the same one sold by Harbor Freight, so I was steering clear. However, that's U.S. General. I think I'll get this one. Thanks guys!
