In the past I bought whatever Lowes or HomeDepot had. The last two years that has been running around $220 to $230 a ton for mostly Green Supremes. The Green Supremes burn good. I would use an SUV and hand load a half ton at a time drive it home and hand unload it. Round trip about 24 miles and two gallons of gas per trip. For a ton of pellets that is 4 gallons of gas plus my time.

Last season I tried a bag of Pacific Cleanfire softwood. Burns hot and significantly less ash than the Green Supremes.

This year I decided to go top shelf from woodpellets.com. I got 2.5 tons for $732.75 delivered in front of my garage. Yes I know that is $293.10 a ton which is pricey. Then again I saved about $37 in gasoline by not having to go fetch it and move 2.5 tons of pellets by hand into the SUV.

1.5 tons of Softwood Cleanfire Pacific
1 ton of Hardwood Cleanfire Pacific.

The delivery charge to my house included in total above was $59. In retrospect I should have purchased another ton for the same one time delivery cost of $59 for 3.5 tons. Next year maybe. Lets see how these burn. Last year I burned 3 tons of Green Supremes and had to clean my stove every 2 weeks. Lets see if I can get buy with 2.5 of of the top shelf stuff with less cleaning.

I don't think 2.5 tons gets me into the pellet pig category but I got to be close. Hey my pellets are all stowed away and I am ready for winter.

Keep an eye out for good pellets at Lowes, Every now and then they get a load of Somerset’s pellets delivered. If you liked the green supreme’s you will really like the Somerset’s. A lot more heat an a lot less ash.

Stock up on the good stuff early but keep yourself open if the local big box gets some good stuff cheap. Grab a half ton in the SUV and save the good stuff. I still have 2 tons of Spruce Points I bought 2 seasons ago. Last year it was Fireside Ultra at HD and I think PresToLogs were good to.

I got 3 tons of barefoot this year. I'm really becoming a believer of good quality pellets. I paid 255/ton which was a sale price here in PA.

You can NEVER go wrong with an A+ pellet like a Somerset or Barefoot. That said, have had good luck with the Fireside Ultras and Stove Chow at HD. Amazing... the choices and prices from the Mississippi to New England.
