Groundhog Day

So Monday is groundhog day, that marks the middle of winter and hopefully on the way to longer days and maybe even warmer weather!! How many of you consider this the mid point of the heating season? How are you doing on your fuel supply at this point? I did a quick inventory and have only used 1/4 of my stock for the season. Of course I have been augmenting with a lot of firewood this year, probably been burning more wood than I have in recent years so it looks like I will carry over some pellets for next year. As for a total burned in the pellet stove, tonight will be bag 41 opened for the season, not even a ton yet but as I said that is only because of all the wood I have burned...and not one drop of oil!

Half way threw winter in mass came in with a bang. After plowing for 38 hours straight and blowing the turbo in my truck. I'm just counting down the days till spring..

Ok so technically yes the days started getting longer already but I guess what I'm saying is we are on the downhill side to warmer weather and I was wondering how everyone is making out at the halfway point of winter.

The better half of winter is done. Now you have the colder snowier side of winter for the next 2 months. Even april can drop a noreaster on us.

I look at it as being semi-over about March 15th and it does usually start warming a bit. Still cold but the witch and her ta ta's begin revving the broom for departure if you know what I mean. In my math that's 6 1/2 weeks left. I have seen it cold and snowy in April though too..... Once March 1st hits it's close enough. Sometimes! As long as Jan and Feb are over I tend to think the worst is over.

I am setting good on pellet supply and have heated 100% with wood since last Sunday and will until this Sunday night then I leave for an out of town job and back to pellets which was a big reason I went with a pellet stove. Last year the wife looked like this and I was like this . The old dog learned an pellet stove trick and she is now like this . Worth every damn dime!

The Woodmaster needed a stretch and work out for a few. Plus I had some scrub wood to get rid of and out of the way. Also saved a few bags of pellets although I have more than enough to last this season.

We're just getting started snow/cold wise. I'm over a ton so far, and a lot more to burn before I'm done. Although some of it will be testing the new stove design, I'm still expecting to burn at least another ton before I let the heat pump carry the house.

I've burned at least 3 tons (probably more like 4 - yes, I am a bad pellet person for not keeping track), and will burn at least 2 more. Have about 2 tons in basement and 40 bags still pre-paid that I haven't picked up yet. will probably still get more from HD next week, just to be safe while they still have them (if I'm not too late - didn't pick up any this week so don't know if they are available).

Besides for DHW, only used propane to heat while away on vacation during Holidays and run the boiler 3x/day at 10 minutes each time to keep FHW pipes clear of ice.

I think Feb 1/2 is about halfway, or a bit past. Last year had used 1/2 season consumption as of Jan 21. Coldest weather yet coming this week. We rarley see much below 10F, and Monday is supposed to be -1.

I burn pellets right into June. Mostly on cool rainy weekends, but definitely into June. Start burning again in late September. Not much of an off season! But not a drop of oil.
