Hanging up a compressor hose reel.

This was something I did not consider when building the shop so there are no cross braces in the wall. I do want a finish look but strong to hold up the hose reel. It is very heavy and pulling on it also has a harsh impact. At first I got the 50 footer but by placing it in the right place I can cover the shop and also bring it outside in the driveway so this 25 footer with the 20% off coupon will do the trick.
3/8 in. x 25 ft. Premium Retractable Air Hose Reel
The 1x8 piece of oak screwed to the studs using 2-1/2” galvanized countersunk deck screws with the hose reel bolted to the oak with 3/8” x 1” stainless steel lags along with SS lock washers and and SS washers to hold it. It seems fairly solid.

Got the NPT fittings and got it working now. When the shop was wired up electrically, the dedicated 20 amp outlet for the compressor was towards the back on the left of the windows which puts it in a convenient out of the way location. However the hose itself should be very handy next to the shop door. So a 25 foot long green compressor hose run on the knee wall shelf did the trick!

I just got a 50 footer for christmas. The heavy duty one from klutch. It weighs a lot. I too hadnt considering mounting this beast and all the force from pulling the hose. luckily my garage is unfinished. I took 4x4's and cut them to length so they fit horizontally between the wall studs. i mounted 3 of them sandwiched between the studs with lag bolts. then i used 4 2" lag bolts to fasten the reel to the 4x4's. it is extremely stable.

Looks like they show 1/2” plywood That may not be strong enough

I don't understand the dilemma. You need to externally brace a stud by mounting wood or metal to it an mount to that.

For me...I'd use a few painted 2x4's. If you care about aesthetics more, have a piece of diamond plate cut...say 6"x17" to straddle the stud. Mount that to the wall with some stainless hex bolts and mount the reel to that.
