Hardmaple Slabs!

I have a couple of buddies that own a sawmill that makes it handy to get a few slabs. This load of 10 brings the pile at home to 41 which should last 4-5 years! I am putting in a new wood furnace this year which I am very excited about. It is the Kuuma VaporFire found at (broken link removed) Does anyone else own one of these?

I've heard alot of good things about the Kuuma furnaces. What brand was the old wood furnace? I'll be curious how the new works out. What size is your home and how well is it insulated? Its always nice to have an idea what its heating. Looks like a nice load of wood there.

nothing like "gopher wood" to keep you running in the cold season. for sure! there is a mill about 1 hr from here that gets $25 a bundle for 'em. some guys get and cut them into packages for sale to campers....hmmm-maybe i should do that, too!

Glad to hear you have heard good things about the Kuuma furnace,laynes69. The furnace I will be replacing is the Yukon Eagle which is built 3 miles from our place. It is a good furnace but doesn't burn the gases off like the Kuuma. The result is a lot of creosote. I am so impressed with how clean and efficient the Kuuma burns. The Kuuma is built in Tower, Minnesota which is 122 miles from here. Have been there and got to see them built and see the one in his shop that has been heating for 28 years without ever having to clean the chimney No smoke! Daryl the owner is a wonderful person who loves to show you around the shop and talk about how they got where they are with this furnace. Great furnace, great people!To answer your other questions,the house is 2000 square feet with 4 inch walls and fairly new windows.

If you search some older post in the boiler room there is one about the furnice your getting. Looks and sounds like a good unit. I think the post I'm refering is a couple months old.

Good deal man, I survived my first year of wood burning on beech, and maple slab wood. I made up a big saw buck, and chopped it right in the driveway as it came off the trailer, then straight into the basement. If you can get it cheap go for it!!

I'll be curious on how much less wood you will use. How much were you burning with the old woodfurnace a year?

Last season i burned 11 bundles of mixed hardwood slabs. Next heating season will be burning the same kind of wood, so yes it will be real interesting to see if i burn less!
