Hi,

I am looking at buying a Harman Advance pellet stove used. It was MFG in 1999. See attached picture...burnpot looks weird. Is $500-900 a good deal for this, or is it better to keep an eye out for something else?

Thanks.

Not a bad price, but it’s hard to tell how bad that burnpot actually is. At a minimum, it needs a new Flame Guide, which will cost about $30. It’s a “wear part,” & you can get one on Amazon. You won’t know the condition of the rest of it until you tear into it. If you’re a decent mechanic, with some basic tools, it can probably be rehabbed & give you some more years of quality heat. Lots more parts for Harman stoves are readily available. Your call…

My VC stove is older, but once you get into it, is Harmon and was just a few short seasons ago I put a new burn pot in .... Harmon. My original had run so much, it had built up stresses and cracked in a couple of hot places / seams. The replacement burn pot lacked a flame guide (shelf) across the top ... so flames would rise straight up into the faux logs. I cut & welded a flame guide (shelf) to correct it. As of last year, could still get what I needed for the stove. I am in no position to offer appraisal values.

Is the lower square hole the air feed? I have never had mine apart. From there it goes into the igniter chamber I guess.

It is the path that outside combustion air is pulled through and then upwards through the holes and the pellets burning in the burn pot. The newest burn pot in my picture above had provisions for an ignitor under the burn pot but my stove doesn't use one, so I welded the screw holes. I use a long skinny lighter to light it. I had added a clean-out door on the original, but the new one had a nice clean out door with two thumb screws. I had bought a gasket, but the original never tore. I know the original burn pot was wider, but I used "drill bit fitting" to determine hole sizes and counted holes in each, the total area of the holes in each was very close to the same.
