Love my new P43. Don't love the clinking sound of the pellets dropping. Anybody have a way to stop it?
The clinking you hear is the pellets dropping into the auger when the slide plate opens. That's the way these stoves operate. No way to avoid or quiet it down other than unplugging the stove. The longer you own the stove, the less you will notice it.

I had an Accentra before the P43 and it didn't make the clinking noise. Why is that>

The sound is music to my ears.

I have owned my P43 for almost 10yr, always made that noise. My son has P38+ and his make the noise as well. The P series has been around for over 20+ yrs, I would think if Harman or some savvy owner could have made the clinking silent, It may have been done by now.
Keep us updated if you find you solution.

we have a P61A...
drops more pellets than the above stoves so bit more clink involved which we barely notice ..
[until now since y'all brought it up].....thanks guys...::-)

Yes you'll get used to it...

The old Accentras had a cast iron feeder housing I think? Cast iron does not ring like plate steel

The clinking sound implies that the stove is working just fine and you will continue to stay nice and warm. :)

Feeder units are the same,Accentra,43,61,but is 2 versions, early and late.the Absolute 43 I do not know about. But,could be the auger pushes out more pellets,on the 43 and 61,leaving an empty spot at the back of the auger.Seems like accentras never have that noise, except when starting.

I never notice it anymore. When I do it is when it is quiet in the house. I don't mind it as I know it is working. Fan blower on high you hardly notice it. It will come on every minute. If it is turned up it will do it 2 or 3 times + depending how high you quickly turn up the temp and feed rate setting.

My OCD has kicked in on this. Breaking down the cost of one bag of pellets I wonder how many .001 cents it is every time it does this one time? :-) By the way I now notice it more since this post. :-( I am sure it will fade again eventually.

Only time I hear it anymore is at start up and I'm always glad to hear it then. Other than that, I just hear the blower. You'll get used to it.

My P68 does the same thing, I only notice it occasionally, the sound of heat to me but I can see how it could annoy someone that just finds it that way. Surly you could find the plate in particular that is doing the ringing and maybe deaden it somehow, I would have to fail at tryng before I could believe this could not be at least helped somehow.

Where do the pellets touch when they drop?
on a Harman, at the bottom of the hopper, a horizontal plate slides opens up and pellets from the hopper drop into the auger compartment
to get pushed into the burnpot..
Everything coming in contact is metal and pellets...
nothing can be quieted or really need be...
it's the sound of heating.....

actually, since we sleep upstairs,
the barely audible pinging let's us know the stove is still in operation downstairs..
My ears have gotten so bad I don't hear it upstairs anymore lol. But I do see the orange glow in the stairway and at the top landing on a cold night. HMMM, it's march first and it was 41 overnight last night, no orange glow there but I could barely hear the blower though..

I minor inconvenience for a product that is built like a tank and will last years, plus easy to work if needed and clean. Harman went through many generations to produce a quality product. I bought the product after looking at the internals on display at a dealer. You can see the quality throughout. The sound you hear is telling me it is working properly. Having had a cheap box product in the past I was having auger jams. Harman uses the plate slide to gradually feed pellets to the auger to eliminate jams. The dropping of pellets onto the plate is what you are hearing. I find the sound not really noticeable after a while. Like having a grandfather clock when you first buy it and hearing it chime every hour and after awhile you don't realize or hear the every hour chimes.
