Beautiful job on the hearth/stove, makes what I did look pretty shabby :down: If I ever put one upstairs I will be looking for this thread, I think that looks awesome - glad your happy with it!
that tile on the back wall really finishes your project off. Mine is getting installed this tues. gonna be a surprise for my girlfriend. I might have to put tile behind after seeing yours/nice job.

Makes me wish I had done my own tile job. It's not like I didn't have time... while waiting 4+ months for my XXV to arrive. That is one fantastic job you did

Your set up is beautiful! We should be receiving our Harman XXV shortly and are making a simple pad before it arrives. Would you let me know the dimensions you went with for your corner pad? Thanks a lot!

The pad is a 48" square. We liked the shape of the prefabricated corner hearth pads we saw - the ones with the front corner removed - so we copied those. The lengths of those short sides where we lopped that corner off are 31.5" long. The stove was placed on the pad with minimum wall clearances - 6.25" from rear corners to back wall. This left 12.5" from the front edge of the stove to the front edge of the pad. We're happy with how the stove and pad look together. The proportions seem good for the room where we did the install. My XXV is sitting on a home built pad in the corner that is approx. 56" x 56" with the front corner cut off like yours. Behind the stove about 5' out from the corner on each side is a 4' high sheet of plywood. Next year when cash is a little more abundant I plan on a stone veneer/faux stone installation on the plywood with some sort of mantle above.

Just curious why you hired an installer for the stove if your talented enough to build a nice hearth.

The stove was installed by the dealer we purchased it from. The stove weighs close to 400 pounds and frankly, I didn't want to do the hard part - get it into my truck, out of my truck, up the steps into the house, and onto the pad. The pro's had a couple of different lifts they used to do this efficiently and safely without damage to my truck, house, stove, or my back. None of my relatives, friends or neighbors volunteered to help. Otherwise, I think I could have done the rest myself. Besides, after finishing the hearth, it sure was nice to kick back and down a couple of cold ones while watching someone else work! :blank:
