I have a Harman advance that the potentiometer for the fan control seems to be dying on. The "room temp low" is actually the off position (when it actually feels like shutting off), and I am pretty sure "room temp high" is only medium fan speed.

I am looking at replacing the potentiometer, but I don't know what the resistance value is on it. I've found two listings... 50k and 100k.

Given the time of year, I want to minimize the downtime with the stove, so I want to make sure I have the correct one before I open the stove.

Does anyone know which one I need?

Sorry no one got back to you sooner... no Harman here so not much help but hopefully another owner will chime in.

The original potentiometers on my Harman board were stamped what the resistance is on them..you might want to see if you can take a look..

Or, if they aren't stamped you can ohm it out. Mine are 100k. If you don't have a VOM perhaps a friend can help. Finally, have you tried a search for the pot using the most exact terminology you can?

Common issue. .if I remember correctly the P38 was the only model that took the 50K....quite sure you would be the 100K....I know for sure the P61A and P68A take the 100K.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yes, I have a DMM. I cannot see where they are stamped as to what they are, and I don't want to pull the circuit board out until I have the parts in hand. For the last week, our overnight lows were low teens, and this is my only heat source, so minimal downtime is an absolute must. Once I start tearing it apart, I am committed.

Rex, Thank you for that bit of information.

Worst case, I will order one of each prior to the work, but I'd rather order the right one and save the $5.00 for another bag of pellets.

If you go to Brunners bits and pieces they should have what your looking for

Word of advice, be sure you solder it correctly and know where the wires go if there is not 1 large plug. I speak from experience..

Good. Post here how you make out when all done..

The fan control on my Accentra insert has similar issues and I just received a new pot from Brunners. I've never soldered before but was thinking of giving it a try. How difficult is it, and if I screw it up can I mess up my board? I'm debating whether I should attempt it now or wait til spring.

Not for a novice. With so many places fixing computers and cell phones I would lean you towards that. Less than 15 minutes for me for the last pair and most of that was retrieving the needed digital iron, solder wick, forceps, silver bearing solder and a touch of flux

Ok thanks, I guess I'll play it safe and get someone else to do the soldering.

Brunner's Bits -n- Pieces via E bay replaces the pots, tests the board and I can recommend them..Busy time for them so figure about 2 weeks or more total

They took care of my board which I thought I fried, but was just the pots need to soldered on "correctly"...

Mine are 100K. I tried to test the resistance with a VOM but I am getting 4. No change occurs when I turn the knob on the pots. Where do I test on these Pots, I position each wand the red and black on each on the two long wire legs.? Thanks.

I am trying to test my 100k pots on my Harman...where do I position the wands on the pots...I set the the resistance at 200k. What should i expect for a reading...does it change if I the turn the Knobs? Thanks.

jos, Welcome to the forum but sorry no one got back to you . Bioburner usually stops by in the mornings so hopefully he will be able to give you info on the pots... Good luck!

PM Stovenson, our Dane friend that repairs stereos etc. or Snowy Rivers working on board replacement for stoves

Stovensen is his forum name. May not be able to catch him as often given the time of year...

You could try searching the threads but it may take awhile

X2 you are quite correct!
