Hey everyone. Great sight. Lots of information. My question is this. I have an old stove, early 1900’s. I’m wondering what to use under the stove? There are no firebricks and it is cast. Can I put legs on a sheet of 3/16” steel and use under the stove like a stand for it to sit on? 2” air space under the stand?

It would be better if there was a layer of full-sized brick under or over the metal.

Here is what NFPA 211 says about placing an unlisted residential solid fuel heater on a combustible floor.
