Hello,

I’m preparing to install a Nectre N550 (Vermont Bun Baker XL), and will need to build a hearth. The manual states that in the US it needs to extend 16” in front and 8” to each side:

NFPA 211 seems to insist on 18” on each side (please correct me if i’m wrong).

If i build the hearth according to the manual, am I violating code? 18” on each side would extend the hearth 8” into a hallway but 10” on each side fits the space perfectly and satisfies the manufacturer requirements. Thanks!

NFPA covers unlisted stoves. It also calls for 36" clearance in all directions.
The Nectre is a UL listed stove. It has been tested and certified for lower clearance requirements. Go by the manual.
