Hi There,

We recently purchased a home with a pref-fab fireplace. There are 2 blowers that run along both sides of the fireplace, but the previous owner built a beautiful mantel with wood columns that covers the majority of the blower vents.

There are about 2 inches of clearance between the mantel and the blower vent. When burning last night with the vent on, I noticed the wood mantel in front of the vent felt very warm to the touch.

Should I be concerned? If so, can anyone think of a way to deflect the heat around the mantel columns?

Appreciate your thoughts!
Andy

Yes you should be concerned. Blocking vents can be very dangerous.

Pics would help.

Anything wood and warm should be a concern.

Yes! Google pyrolysis.
