Heat N Glo Gas fireplace Remote not working?

Heat n Glo RC 300 remote

My mother has had problems with the Heat n Glo RC 300 remote for a long time. Now We can not get it to fire up the fireplace. Pilot light fires up, but the main gas does not open to fire the burners. Just the pilot comes on. The remote seems to not be displaying everything it should and at the top of the remote screen it says off. I have tested and changed all batteries both in remote and the battery tray under the fireplace. Power cord is on and tested voltage at outlet it's good at 125V.

We tried resetting with the dedicated reset switch and it did not fix anything.

We took off the surround and accessed the control box on the left side on the fireplace. We switched the control box switch to manual and it fired up the stove right away and it burned perfectly. We tried to do the paper clip reset with the switch moved to the remote setting and we got green light flashes but no connection to the remote.

At this point i'm assuming the remote in no good.

My question is does anyone have experience with this remote? I've been reading it's not reliable and wondering if there might be a different (better) remote that would work with this unit?

They fail. All remotes can fail though. Do not buy the Amazon knock off you can tell the difference by case plastic color and feel. I think it might be missing the logo to. They do not have strong enough signal. I just had a customer supply one and it could not work with the screen assembly blocking the control module/receiver
